WHEREAS, THE ROBSTOWN HIGH SCHOOL LADY PICKERS POWERLIFTING TEAM HAS ONCE AGAIN PROVEN THEIR STRENGTH AND DETERMINATION, CLINCHING THEIR FOURTH CONSECUTIVE TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL WOMEN'S POWERLIFTING ASSOCIATION 4A D2 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP ON FRIDAY, MARCH 14. THE POWERHOUSE TEAM HAD SEVERAL ATHLETES EARN INDIVIDUAL ACCOLADES, SOLIDIFYING ROBSTOWN'S DOMINANCE IN THE SPORT. WHEREAS, THE LADY PICKERS POWERLIFTING TEAM ARE HONORED WITH A HISTORY SETTING RECORD BY SENIOR LEAYA ALANIZ IN THE 123 POUND DIVISION WITH A 425 POUND SQUAT TYING THE 4A BENCH PRESS RECORD AT 250 POUND, AND ACHIEVING THE HIGHEST TOTAL LIFT

IT IS TRULY AN HONOR TO STAND HERE BEFORE YOU AND RECOGNIZE A GROUP OF YOUNG WOMEN WHO ACCOMPLISHED SOMETHING TRULY REMARKABLE NOT JUST FOR THEIR SCHOOL BUT THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY AND SCHOOL. THEY BROUGHT HOME THE FOURTH CONSECUTIVE STATE TITLE. IN FOUR YEARS, FOUR TITLES AND ONE INCREDIBLE LEGACY. THAT WAS OUR GOAL FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON AND EVERYBODY LAST YEAR HAD THREE PETE ON THEIR MIND WE ACCOMPLISH THAT. THEY HAVE ACCOMPLISHED EVERYTHING THEY HAVE SET OUT TO SO KUDOS TO THEM. EVERYTHING THAT THEY HAVE, THEY DESERVE THROUGH THEIR HARD WORK, SWEAT, DETERMINATION. I WANT TO SPEAK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR STUDENT ATHLETES HERE BECAUSE I THINK THEY DO DESERVE IT FOR THE AMOUNT OF WORK AND DEDICATION THEY PUT IN. IN THE 123 POUND CLASS, -- TIED THE ALL-TIME STATE RECORD WITH A 425 POUND SQUAT WHICH IS MORE THAN I CAN DO. TIED THE BENCH PRESS RECORD AND SET A NEW STATE TOTAL RECORD OF 1025 POUNDS. AMAZING IS THE ONLY WORD I CAN USE TO DESCRIBE THAT. IN THE 100 THERE WE HAD TWO LIFTERS IN THAT DIVISION. HER TWIN SISTER, TAYLOR WON HER REGION WITH AN 875 POUND TOTAL AS DID HER TEAMMATE, PALOMA CALDERON. WE HAD SENIORS THAT LED THE GROUP AND ALSO JUNIORS AND A COUPLE OF SOPHOMORES THAT COULD NOT BE HERE TODAY DUE TO CONFLICTING INTERESTS BUT, IN THE 148, KATERINA HERRERA FINISHED FOURTH PLACE AND COMPETED AUSSIES AMONG. EVERY MEAT THAT WE WANT -- WENT TO WE EXPECT THEM TO PROVE THEMSELVES WEEK IN AND WEEK OUT. BEST DEAD LIFT IN THE HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION WAS EARNED BY OLIVIA MORALES. SHE TOTALED 990 POUNDS WHICH AGAIN IS A FEAT IN ITSELF. JALEY LARIVEY IN THE 165 EARNED SECOND PLACE AT STATE WITH A 1010 POUND TOTAL . AN EXTRAORDINARY PERFORMANCE ON THE BIGGEST STAGE IN THE STATE. IN THE 105 POUND CLASS, -- IMPROVED HER TOTAL AND SHOWED INCREDIBLE RESILIENCE THROUGHOUT THE MEAT.

THERE WAS A POINT DURING THE MEET IN THIS SQUAT, THE FIRST LIFT OF THE MEAT WHERE IT GOT PRETTY TIGHT. IT GOT PRETTY CLOSE. A CLOSE CALL BUT SHE WAS ABLE TO PERSEVERE AND PULL THROUGH FOR HER TEAM. THESE YOUNG WOMEN DID NOT JUST WHEN.

THEY LIFTED EACH OTHER TO GREATNESS. WEEK IN AND WEEK OUT SHOWING UP IT 6:30 A.M. PUTTING THE WORK IN WHEN A LOT OF STUDENT ATHLETES ARE AT HOME SLEEPING. A LOT OF THE STATE IS AT HOME SLEEPING. THESE GIRLS ARE AT THE SCHOOL, AT THE GYM

READ? OKAY. THANK YOU. >> WHEREAS, IN NUECES COUNTY, WE BELIEVE THAT CHILDREN THRIVE IN SAFE, STABLE, NURTURING FAMILIES WITHIN THEIR OWN COMMUNITIES. THROUGH ESTABLISHING PARTNERSHIPS WITH FAMILIES THAT CAPITALIZE ON THE COLLECTIVE STRENGTHS OF PARENTS AND THEIR CHILDREN, WE CAN BUILD STRONG, HEALTHY FAMILIES AND RESILIENT COMMUNITIES WHERE CHILDREN CAN THRIVE; WHEREAS, SADLY, CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT ARE STILL SIGNIFICANT PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUES. IN FISCAL YEAR 2024, 99 CHILDREN DIED IN THE STATE OF TEXAS DUE TO ABUSE OR NEGLECT.

TWO CHILDREN BEING FROM NUECES COUNTY. DESPITE THE COMPLEX FACTORS THAT CAN LEAD TO CHILD MALTREATMENT, IT CAN BE PREVENTED; WHEREAS, CHILD WELFARE ORGANIZATIONS IN NUECES COUNTY HAVE LONG SUPPORTED AND ADVOCATED FOR THE WELL-BEING OF LOCAL CHILDREN. THROUGH COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS, THESE ORGANIZATIONS PROVIDE ESSENTIAL SERVICES, FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, AND VITAL RESOURCES, WHILE WORKING TO EDUCATE THE COMMUNITY AND RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION. EACH YEAR, THE MONTH OF APRIL IS DEDICATED TO RECOGNIZING THE CRITICAL WORK BEING DONE ACROSS OUR GREAT COUNTY TO PROTECT AND UPLIFT OUR CHILDREN. WHEREAS, CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION IS A TASK THAT REQUIRES DAILY WORK AND CONTINUED EDUCATION OF EVERYONE IN OUR COUNTY. CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION CANNOT BE TASKED TO ONE PERSON, AGENCY, OR SYSTEM. WE MUST ALL WORK TOGETHER TO STRENGTHEN OUR COMMUNITIES AND KEEP CHILDREN AND FAMILIES SAFE.

IT TAKES EVERYONE WORKING HARD TO CREATE POSITIVE, HEALTHY ENVIRONMENTS FOR THE FUTURE LEADERS OF OUR GREAT COUNTY AND STATE. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT THE COMMISSIONERS COURT OF NUECES COUNTY, DOES HEREBY PROCLAIM APRIL 2025 TO BE "CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION AWARENESS MONTH" IN NUECES COUNTY AND ENCOURAGES EVERYONE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE MANY ASPECTS OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT PREVENTION, AND UTILIZE THE SYSTEMS AND NETWORKS PUT IN PLACE TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN.

THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE COMPLAINS OF SHORT STAFFING, DIFFICULTY RECRUITING AND RETAINING, LOW PAY AND OLD EQUIPMENT AND HAVING TO DEVOTE TIME TO DOING FEDERAL DUTIES IS MISUSE OF LOCAL TAXPAYER MONEY OR IT RAISES SERIOUS QUESTIONS ABOUT ALL OF THESE INSUFFICIENCIES IN THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE. WE ARE NOT EXPECTING CHANGES OF A MATERIAL NATURE.
